In some cases, the website hosting the content cited as the source of our results goes offline indefinitely. When that happens, we reserve the right to alter source links for the purpose of driving users elsewhere. This practice became necessary after it was brought to our attention that a website commonly cited as a source had been acquired by someone that appeared to be hosting malware after the domain name registration expired. To protect you and our other users from such things we may use software to remove dead links from time to time in cases where the website hosting the content appears to have shut down for good. That software also matches missing links with archived results form the Internet Archive when a corresponding match appears to exist. If no likely match is found then the user will be directed to a notification informing them that the source website has shut down and no likely match could be found in the Internet Archive, but that the item remains an accurate representation of content as it existed elsewhere on the internet at one time.
